Use Your Gifts in Worship

There is a banner in the sanctuary that says we are “Blessed to Be a Blessing”. Did you ever think about what that means in real life? Giving of my time in service to God at church is one of the ways I feel blessed. Opportunities for gifts of time abound at Good Shepherd, especially when it comes to helping create a beautiful, efficient, and welcoming worship service. When we give of our time in service to God, we bless others and feel blessed ourselves! As Gifts in Worship Co-Coordinators, Lynn McCallum and Connie Klein can help connect you to ways of serving in worship that best utilize your gifts!

  • Do you love to read and enjoy public speaking? Perhaps serving as an Assisting Minister would be a good fit for you.

  • Do you love welcoming people with open arms, helping them feel as if they belong? Then you would be an excellent Greeter!

  • Do you love guiding people through various parts of worship and keeping worship moving? AND perhaps you have a hard time sitting still during worship? You would make a FANTASTIC Usher!

  • When you receive Communion, do you feel the words spoken calling to you? Do you want to share that feeling with others? If so, consider serving as a Communion Server and help connect people to their faith through the sacrament.

  • Do you enjoy all things technical and enjoy attention to detail? Perhaps consider serving in the Sound Booth and help amplify our worship space.

  • Do you enjoy having your pulse on ALL the action? Are you effective and seeing what needs to be done and then making it happen? If so, you would be a perfect Worship Shepherd, the quarterback of each worship!

  • Perhaps you feel better suited to an occasional role? Crucifer (carrying the cross in and out of worship) is a role we use for larger feast (celebration) days that make a festival worship truly festive.

These roles are suitable for almost all ages. There is no such thing as being too young or too old! Liturgy is the work of the people. Let us continue working together as God’s people in worship.

If you are interested in learning more about these roles, or serving in worship, please email Lynn and Connie at giftsinworship@gsolympia.org.
