Loving the LGBTQIA+ Community

• About the Forum: Over the past few months the LGBTQIA+ community has come under heavy assault by the current administration and its supporters. Executive orders, dismantling Diversity, Equality and Inclusion programs, anti-LGBT bills, removing websites and information sources and other actions are causing much harm and fear within a June 15 (continued) community that in the last decade had enjoyed increased widespread support. Such actions are in strong opposition to the welcoming values our congregation upholds in our welcome statement. One part of our welcome statement reads: “The Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd Welcomes All People: People of all sexual orientations and gender identities.” In this forum, several members and/or allies of the LGBTQIA+ community at LCGS will help us reflect on that statement. We will revisit our commitment to this community and provide ways that we can support and ‘hug’ our queer family members, friends, neighbors and the community at large.
