The Gift of Good Shepherd’s Luther Oak

Remembering the Gift of Good Shepherd’s Luther Oak

God writes the Gospel not in the Bible alone, but also on trees, and in the flowers and clouds and stars. — Martin Luther

On October 24, 2010, members of the Good Shepherd congregation planted a “Luther Oak” on Good Shepherd’s grounds on the lawn facing North Street. This oak was grown from an acorn that fell from an oak tree planted by Martin Luther in Wittenberg, Germany. The tree was given to The Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd by Rev. Joe Wagner.

On October 29, 2017 the tree was dedicated in celebration of the 500th year anniversary of The Reformation.

Rev. Joe Wagner died on Thursday, October 21; his wife, Claudia Wagner, died on Wednesday, October 27. Rev. Joe and Claudia are parents of Paul Wagner and in-laws of Carolyn Wagner. A joint memorial service will take place at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Seattle on Sunday, November 20 at 1:00 p.m.
